Glossary
The key terms.

- Land title · الرسم العقاري
- Document issued by the land registry at the end of registration. It identifies the land (plan, area, boundaries) and the rights that encumber it. The law describes it as final and unchallengeable.
- Land registration · التحفيظ
- Procedure that brings a plot of land under the land registration system and results in the issue of a land title.
- Registration application · مطلب التحفيظ
- Application for registration filed with the land registry. Land “under application” is in the process of registration: it does not yet have a title.
- Melkia · الملكية
- Deed drawn up by adouls (notaries under Islamic law) that establishes ownership of a property on the basis of witness statements. It can serve as the basis for a registration application.
- Boundary marking · التحديد
- Operation that fixes and marks out on the ground the boundaries of a property, in the presence of the parties concerned. In the registration procedure, it is a mandatory step.
- Objection · التعرض
- Challenge lodged by a third party against a registration application, in the form and within the time limits laid down by law.
- Certificate of ownership · شهادة الملكية
- Document issued by the land registry stating, at a given date, the owner of a land title and the encumbrances recorded.
- Plot division · التقسيم
- Division of a plot of land into several parts. Depending on the location of the land, it may require prior authorisation (Law No. 25-90, as amended by Law No. 34-21).
- Subdivision · التجزئة
- Division of land into building lots, with roads and utility networks, subject to authorisation (Law No. 25-90, as amended by Law No. 34-21).
- Co-ownership · الملكية المشتركة
- Regime of a building divided into units, each comprising a private part and a share of the common parts (Law No. 18-00).
- Spot-height plan · تصميم طبوغرافي
- Plan of a plot of land showing the elevation of the measured points, needed to design a construction or development project.
- Setting-out · التوقيع
- Transfer to the ground, using markers, of the exact position of a building or structure drawn on a plan.
- As-built survey · تصميم المطابقة
- Survey of what has actually been built, to compare it with the authorised project.
- Lambert Morocco · لامبير
- Morocco's official plane coordinate system, divided into zones. It allows all plans to be located in the same reference frame.
- GNSS
- Global navigation satellite systems (including GPS), used to measure positions with high precision.
